[UW Photo A156] Taprobane East Wreck – Birds eye view

Taprobane East Wreck is a typical example for a shipwreck with outstanding beauty, tranquility and life, which is nothing but a dream of any shipwreck enthusiast. The day I dived the wreck was extra special in terms of visibility. Though it lies around 30m depth, wreck was clearly visible from far. This provided me the avenue to capture a bird’s eye view of the wreck.

SS Orestes is a great shipwreck off the coast of Unawatuna/ Galle. This time I managed to capture a different perspective of the wreck which I am pleased about. Wide angle lenses come in handy when capturing this kind of big structure. I have used the widest of all, a fish-eye lens.

This is a part of the Rangoon Ship wreck contains rustic saltwater-beaten metal scraps. Not sure if there is any specialty in this image unless you connect with the tragic story of this naval disaster occurred in 1871, few nautical miles away from Galle Harbor.

[UW Photo A141] Fish circling @ Nilwella wreck

Probably, this photo may not take any attention. Yet, from my point, this is an attempt to capture something different. Here we can see a school of fish circling top on a wreckage. Capturing this kind of fishes is tricky. Unless all the fishes are going in the same speed, shutter speed may not be sufficient enough. In this case, you may notice some fish are clear, some are just shown as white stripes. Please notice the wave lines on the sand as well. Though it is not perfect, I am pleased with overall sense give by the image.

Divers love exploring ship wrecks mainly due to the abundance of life they usually find within them. Yet, some like shipwrecks because it gives you the sense of connection with the history of the ship and its story. This is a photo I took of Nilwella wreck that illustrates the rustic remaining as is now. Wreck enthusiasts, like me, can admire this kind of image since for us its not merely a junk but a living artifacts of a real history.
